An answer to a SETI post re radio signals being sent out to the universe announcing our existence. Hypothetically....If the laws of physics are universal, and also that of Chemistry, Geology etc, then so too must biology be. And if we assume that we arrived at this point of being sentient with the ability of abstract thought, small masters of our environment and increasingly over our own biology, then I would assume that same journey will be replicated throughout the universe where conditions are favourable. If the way we arrived at this point is littered with violent struggle just like every biological entity under the laws of evolution here, then so too must apex creatures from other remote cosmic biospheres. The assumptions we make, that advanced intelligent creatures would be benevolent, benign or sort of like cosmic buddhists, seems like science fiction to me. If that were so, they would also realise their own history to be one of evolutionary violence to achieve their own ascendancy. If a foreign body enters your blood stream, your immune system goes and destroys it. It doesn't lay out the welcome mat and attempt to engage intellectually how wonderful it is. So if in our galactic travels we encounter another organism, no matter what it is, we should be wary of it's natural instinct to defend itself against any possible threat. We ourselves are supposedly one species, yet our natural prejudice is against others just ever so slightly different, and our tendency is to conquer and to subjugate. What if we encountered beings more advanced than ourselves with a similar history and tendency?
